The Chess Club is a before school event for children to hone their chess skills. It is open to all Beaumont students - beginners, intermediates, and experts!
At Chess Club, players will learn chess basics, tricks and strategies, approaches and tactics. Chess matches are played every meeting.
Beaumont Chess Club plans to work with beginner chess players at each session to teach basic piece movement, chess notation and begin game play. In addition, we plan to arrange players in groups according to ability. Hopefully, we will be able to spend a short time each session teaching chess strategy to the whole group.
Beaumont Chess Club would like to have 2 or 3 parents as supervisors for each session. Usually, we have at least 40 players, so parent volunteers are crucial to the smooth running of the club. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY CHESS TO SUPERVISE!
Beaumont Chess Club is asking for a $10 per player contribution, good for the 2010-2011 chess season. Please make all checks out to Beaumont HSA.
Attendance is not mandatory at every meeting, try your best. Arriving at 7:30 am is not mandatory, try your best.

**WHAT:** Enjoy an evening with your family and Beaumont friends for a pizza dinner in the cafeteria followed by BINGO in the gym
**WHO:** All Beaumont Families – parents and siblings, young and old!
**WHEN:** Friday night, January 20, 2012. Two seating times available: 5:30 or 6:30. The first seating includes dinner from 5:30-6:00 and BINGO from 6:00-6:45. The second seating includes dinner from 6:30-7:00 and BINGO from 7:00-7:45.
**HOW IT WORKS:** While each family pays for their own dinner, the event heavily relies on donations and volunteers.
Donations of desserts are needed to help everyone end dinner on a sweet note before heading into BINGO fun.
Donations of new or gently used toys are needed to ensure every player will have something waiting for them at the prize table. Every player will be eligible to select only one prize but may continue top play throughout the session. BINGO play will continue as long as possible with the hope that every child has the chance to win, but this cannot be guaranteed. Consolation prizes will be available.
Prize donations are critical to ensure the success of the evening for the players. The number of children in each family participating in BINGO is a perfect number of prizes to donate. Collection bin is now in the lobby ready to receive prize donations.
Volunteers are needed to help with the check in, dinner and the game. Even if your family is attending one session, please consider volunteering for the other session to help support the event.
Remember to bring your blanket or beach towels for the the BINGO game!

All students in the 1st and 3rd grade are required to write and illustrate a story to publish, but many other students also submit stories during the year. The assembly of books is accomplished by volunteers.
The Publishing Center is a parent-run activity. Parents are needed to type and edit submitted stories. After the typed pages have been illustrated by the students, the pages are bound. The center is open September through June. The majority of work begins in January.
The Publishing Center is now officically open and accepting stories to be published. Getting your child's story published is VERY easy:
1. Have your child write a story of any topic, any length, and submit it to his/her teacher.
2. The story can be handwritten or typed.
3. The story will be returned to them for proofreading and dedication
4. A final copy of the story will be returned for illustration
5. A final book will be bound and returned to your child!
Any questions, please contact the chairpersons of this committee. Stories may also be emailed to the Publishing Center at <publishingcenter@beaumonthsa.org>.

#About HSA
The parent, teacher, and staff association at Beaumont is called the *Home & School Association (HSA)*. All families with children enrolled at Beaumont are members of the HSA. There are no dues for membership.
####It is the mission of the HSA to support and enrich our children's school experience.
The winning combination of Beaumont's wonderful staff and families really stands for **H**elping our **S**chool **A**chieve!
- Through various fundraising activities and a high level of volunteerism from Beaumont families, the HSA is able to sponsor many events as well as provide funding for many capital improvements for our school.
- In recent years, the HSA has provided Beaumont with:
++++ - ...a new kindergarten playground
++++ - ...computers in classrooms
++++ - ...ceiling fans
++++ - ...SmartBoards
++++ - ...and much, much more!
- The HSA also annually supports all [Cultural Arts][1] assemblies, [Theme Week][2], classroom parties, the [Publishing Center][3], and our school partnership with the Bell Avenue School in Yeadon, Pennsylvania ([Community Service][4])
- Great effort is made to ensure that we keep the *FUN!* in fundraising.
- Through parents who help organize such events as the [Book Fair][5], [Play Day][6], [Parent Social][7], and the [Father/Daughter Dance][8], we are able to provide so many of the extras that make Beaumont such a great place for our students and families. These events and others give us a chance to come together as a community and support our school.
- Through volunteerism and fundraising, the HSA continues to support the programs and educational aids needed to enrich our children's earliest memories of school.

# About Markdown
## What is Markdown?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language that allows you to focus on creating written content for the web without worrying too much about HTML syntax. The content you create is later submitted to a Markdown engine (such as the one embedded in xtivus) to yield valid HTML.
## Origins
Markdown was created by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz. You can read more about Markdown:
- [Official Markdown project at Daring Fireball][1]
- [Official Markdown project ... Syntax reference][2]
- [MarkdownSharp][3] (the implementation engine used by xtivus)
- [Markdown - Wikipedia][4]

[3]: http://code.google.com/p/markdownsharp/ "markdownsharp"

## A quick example
Here is some content created in Markdown syntax:
***
\#\#\#\# My Excellent Heading (#4 to be exact)
This is my excellent content complete with an image:
\!\[An Excellent Image\]\[1\]\[CLEAR\]
and a link to \[xtivus\]\[2\].
Note that text can also be \*emphasized\* in \*\*several\*\* different \*\*\*ways\*\*\*!

And here it is after the Markdown engine takes whack at it:

# Weather & Emergency
If it is necessary to close schools or delay their opening due to weather or other emergencies, you may obtain the latest information by calling the School Closing Hotline at **610.240.1970**. Emergency closing information will be the FIRST message the caller will hear. If there is no special message at the beginning of the recording, then no emergency closing is in effect at that time. Weather-related closings are also reported on local radio and TV stations. Our school district number is 854.
In case the need arises to close school suddenly during the school day (due to storm, power failure, etc.) we will initiate our emergency calling system. If you are seldom at home during school hours, it would be advisable to plan emergency procedures with your child.

# Food & Nutrition Services
**Disclaimer:** This section is provided as a service to our parents. While we do our best to keep up-to-date, some information and procedures described here may be updated or changed by the school or district School Board without our knowledge.
Our school cafeteria operates under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Menus are published in the Bear Facts, posted in the school, are on the district web site [here][1] (PDF), and are shown on the T/E school district's cable channel. In addition to the published menu, students can substitute a cold sandwich or pizza (and other special offerings) for the main dish.
Our school uses a "point of sale" system in the cafeteria. This eliminates the need to carry cash each day and helps to alleviate lines at the cashier. This computerized debit system tracks students' meals and snack purchases and payments. Each student is assigned a 4-digit PIN number to access his/her account. This PIN will carry through his/her years in the school district.
Money can be deposited in your child's account by cash or check (payable to Beaumont Cafeteria) in an envelope with your child's name and room number on it. If a check is returned, any service charge from the bank will be passed on to the parent. You can also use a credit card for payment using the [Paypams][2] website; there is a fee to use this service.
When a student does not have money in their account for lunch he/she may charge lunch or milk only. If your child charges, please try to repay this debt the next day. Encourage your child to keep up to date with the balance in his/her account. Charging is a privilege and should be used only on an occasional basis.
[1]: http://www.tesd.net/2127101118131133183/lib/2127101118131133183/ELEMENTARY_COLOR_LETTER_jan_to_june_10-11_lunch_menu_.pdf
[2]: https://paypams.com/
Both the breakfast and lunch programs operate under the "Offer vs. Serve" option under which students may choose at least three of the five lunch components and three of the four breakfast components. Students are encouraged to take all components.
Breakfast is available from the time the buses arrive until students must report to their core class. The cost of student breakfast is $1.25 (or $5.50 for 5 meals and $11.00 for ten.) The breakfast includes 1/2 cup of fruit or juice, a total of 2 ounces of bread, cereal or meat/cheese, and 1/2 pint of milk.
The cost of a student lunch is $2.10 (or $10.50 for 5 meals or $21.00 for 10 meals.) The lunch includes 2 ounces of meat or meat alternate, 3/4 cup of at least two different fruits and or vegetables, and a 1/2 pint of milk. There are five entrees to choose from each day.
The cafeteria offers skim, low fat, and whole white milk and low fat chocolate milk with lunch as well as a la carte ($.55). Healthy snacks and desserts are offered on an a la cart basis, after the students have had time to eat their lunch. Some of the popular items are: water ($.50); soft pretzel ($.50); ice cream ($.50-.65); cookie ($.50); bagged snacks--baked only, no trans fats ($.50; and fresh fruit ($.75).
Parents may put restrictions on their child’s account by sending a letter to the Cafeteria Coordinator in your school. The system can block a la carte purchases, can limit dollar amount of daily expenditures on a la carte purchases, or can permit a la carte purchases on certain days of the week. The system has no way to limit a la carte purchases based on the number of times a week or for specific items.
Information regarding free and reduced price lunch applications is available either in the school guidance office or the Food Service Office at 610-644-6600. Students approved for these meals use the same type of POS account as the other students.
More information is available at the [district food services website][3].

##### VII. MEETINGS
The meetings of the Association are held once a month or as necessary. The dates and times of the monthly meeting will be published in the annual Beaumont calendar. Notification of the changes in meeting dates and times is published in the school newsletter, "Bear Facts".

Special meetings may be called by the President or by a petition of any ten members of the Association.
Any business brought to vote is passed by a simple majority of those members present and voting, except amendments to the by-laws. The Secretary tabulates any votes taken.
##### VIII. THE NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS
In March, the Second Vice-President names a Nominating Committee consisting of six other members of the Association. These Nominating Committee members should be selected from a broad geographical distribution and grade representation.
All the Executive Officer positions are open to the Association membership at large.
The nomination and election process of Executive Officers is as follows:
1. Solicitations are made to all Association members for nominations for the Executive Officers through the school newsletter, "Bear Facts", twice consecutively beginning in February. All members of the Association are encouraged to participate. A member may nominate her/himself or another member of the Association.
2. The Nominating Committee collects the incoming nominations in order to fill the Executive Officer positions. In March, they then compile a slate of one candidate for each Executive Officer position. Only persons who have given their consent to the Nominating Committee may be named to the slate. If multiple candidates are nominated for any Executive Officer position, the Nominating Committee must choose the sole candidate for that position. Two or more people may not share an Executive Officer position.
3. The slate shall be published in the "Bear Facts" before the May meeting.
4. The Nominating Committee announces the officers at the May meeting. The ballot of officers is sent home by student book bag. Ballots are to be returned within one week to count the votes. Additional nominations for Executive Officers can be written on the ballot. Only one ballot per Beaumont household.
5. The slate is elected to their position by majority vote of ballots returned. The Nominating Committee tallies the ballots and announces the Executive Officers before the end of the Annual Meeting.
##### IX. THE NOMINATION AND SELECTION OF COMMITTEE / FUNDRAISER / EVENT CHAIRPERSONS
The Nominating Committee is also responsible for filling chairperson positions for Committees/Fundraisers/Events.
The process of nominating and selecting Committee/Fundraisers/Event Chairpersons is as follows:
1. Solicitations should be made of all Association members for nominations for Committees/Fundraisers/Events chairpersons in the school newsletter, the "Bear Facts", twice consecutively beginning in April. All members of the Association are encouraged to participate.
2. The Nominating Committee collects all incoming nominations in order to fill the Committees/Fundraisers/Events chairperson positions. They then compile a list of one or more candidates for each chairperson position. Only persons who have given their consent to the Nominating Committee may be named as a chairperson for a Committee/Fundraiser/Event.
++++ If multiple candidates are nominated for any chairperson position, the Nominating Committee should discuss with the nominees the possibility of co-chairing. After talking to the nominees, the Nominating Committee must then decide who is/are the candidate(s) for the position.
++++ Once the chairperson list is determined, all nominees for these positions should be notified with the results within two weeks of filling the position.
3. The Nominating Committee fills the chairperson positions using the returns from the "Bear Facts" solicitation. Only persons who have been contacted for their consent by the Nominating Committee may be named as a chairperson.
4. The Nominating Committee should aim to fill these positions by May 31.
5. The list of chairpersons should be published in the "Bear Facts" before the end of the school year.
##### X. INCOME/EXPENSES
1. If necessary, membership dues for the Association can be assessed and determined annually at an Association meeting.
2. Fundraisers are held to the extent necessary to meet budgetary needs and to further the goals of the Association.
3. All outgoing funds must comply within the budgeted amount. Prior approval must be obtained for items not within the budgeted amount. Prior approval can be gained by:
++++ A. Approval by at least three of the Executive Officers (This action must be present at the next Association meeting). Or:
++++ B. Majority vote of those members present at an Association meeting.
##### XI. BUDGET
Prior to the June meeting, the incoming President chairs and names the Capital Budget Committee. The incoming President solicits input from the incoming Executive Committee. Each incoming Committee/Fundraiser/Event Chairperson provides input for the line item(s) in the budget that pertains to that committee.
The budget contains both income and expense items and is based on a fiscal year starting September 1 and ending August 31st.
The budget is submitted for a vote at the June meeting.
##### XII. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE VACANCIES
If a vacancy for an Executive Officer or Committee/Fundraiser/Event Chairperson should occur, the President shall appoint a replacement from the membership to serve out the un-expired term.
If a vacancy should occur in the office of President, the First Vice-President assumes the duties of the President for the remainder of the term.
##### XIII. LIMITATION OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE'S LIABILITY
No member of the Executive Committee shall be personally liable for monetary damages as such for an action taken or any failure to take an action unless: (a) the member has breached or failed to perform the duties of his/her office under Section 8363 of the Pennsylvania Director's Liability Act (relating to standard of care and justifiable reliance), and (b) the breach or failure to perform constitutes self-dealing, willful misconduct, or recklessness; provided, however, that the provisions of this by-law shall not apply to the responsibility or liability of a member pursuant to local, state, or federal law. This amendment shall be applicable to any action taken and any failure to take action on or after January 27, 1987.
##### XIV. AMENDMENTS OR REVISIONS TO THE BY-LAWS
Proposed changes to the By-Laws must be presented at a regular meeting for open discussion. If necessary, a By-Laws Committee will be formed to analyze and review the issues proposed. All meetings of the By-Laws Committee are open to all Association members. The By-Laws Committee should report back at a regular meeting of the Association. These changes must be publicized in the "Bear Facts" and a notice given for the meeting date and time for the vote of the Association. This notice must be given at least ten days prior to the vote. The vote of the Association must be at least two-thirds in agreement of those present.
##### XV. AMENDMENTS TO ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION
The Articles of Incorporation may be altered, amended, or repealed by a majority vote of the Executive Committee unless the amendment constitutes a provision that must be submitted to the membership according to the state law. This vote may be taken at any regular or special meeting duly convened after notice to the Executive Committee or the general membership, of the purpose of the vote.

### Important Things to Remember as Committee Chairpersons
##### Beaumont Blast
The Beaumont Blast comes out every Sunday at 5 p.m. to prepare families for the week (and months!) ahead. The deadline for Blast submissions is 9 p.m. the Thursday prior to the Blast. For more guidelines and helpful hints, please click [here][1].
##### Bear Facts
In an effort to save paper and streamline communications, the Bear Facts newsletter was discontinued in the fall of 2011. All information previously found in the Bear Facts is now being sent electronically through the weekly Blast.
##### Website Publicity
All information submitted to the Blast is also posted on the HSA Web site, often before the Blast comes out. **Please, remember to include the HSA website address on each flyer that you create that will be distributed in school! We REALLY want to reduce the amount of paper waste that goes home. Reduce waste and go green!**
##### Deposits
This is relevant to the volunteers who chair events with a financial component. Please, make sure to deposit checks and other payments in a timely manner. Parents do not want to have checks clear a month or more after it was sent in. If you have an event for which money collections occur for more than 2 weeks, please deposit payments on a weekly basis. Make sure all deposits are made to the Assistant Treasurer within 5 days of an event ending.
When making a deposit, make sure to sort bills and count all monies cash and check and note these totals on the [HSA Event Reconciliation Form][3].
##### Expenses
It is important to keep track of expenses related to your event. Expenses must be described and receipts must be attached in order to be considered for reimbursement. Expense requests must first be approved by the committee chairperson. Please complete all expense reimbursement requests within 5 days of an event ending using the [HSA Expense Reimbursement Form][4].

# Markdown Cheatsheet
## Introduction
This is intended to be a quick reference to Markdown syntax that will be most common within beaumonthsa.org. It is not a complete reference. It will provide some syntax shortcuts without identifying them as such. It will also leave out alternatives when the syntax provided will do nicely. If you want to understand the complete syntax, please refer to John Gruber's [Markdown Syntax Documentation][1].
[1]: http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax "Daring Fireball: Markdown Syntax Documentation"
## Headings
A heading is created by typing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 # (hash or pound) signs followed by a space and then the heading text. One # sign creates a large heading. Six # signs (i.e., ######) creates a very small heading. In beaumonthsa.org, heading 1 is reserved for the page heading. In content, it will be more common for you to use headings 2, 3 and 4.
## Paragraphs
A paragraph is created by surrounding text, above and below, with a blank line. The content in beaumonthsa.org will have lots of these.
## Emphasis
Emphasis (usually *italics* or **bold** or ***both***) is created by surrounding the word or words with \* or \*\* or \*\*\*. Note that the asterisk(s) must touch the words they surround; no spaces.
The word \*\*emphasis\*\* here will get the second level of, well, emphasis when the content is rendered as HTML.
## Blockquotes
A blockquote (a block of indented text typically used for quotations) is created by starting the first line of a paragraph with `>` (the greater than sign).
## Horizontal Rule
A horizontal rule is created by typing three asterisks (i.e., \*\*\*) on a line by themselves.
## Ordered Lists (Number Lists)
An ordered list is created by placing a number followed by a period at the beginning of each line within the list. The first entry should be `1.`. After that it doesn't matter as long as it is a number. Like a paragraph, there must be a blank line above and below the list. The following will be an ordered list when rendered as HTML:
1\. first item ++
1\. second item ++
1\. third item
And here it is rendered:
1. first item
1. second item
1. third item
## Unordered Lists (Bullet Lists)
An unordered list is created by placing a dash (minus sign) at the beginning of each line within the list. Like a paragraph, there must be a blank line above and below the list. The following will be an unordered list when rendered as HTML:
\- first item ++
\- second item ++
\- third item
And here it is rendered:
- first item
- second item
- third item
## Paragraphs Within Lists
Use \+\+\+\+ to start paragraphs within ordered or unordered lists:
\- first item
\- second item
\+\+\+\+ paragraph within second item
\- third item
And here it is rendered:
- first item
- second item
++++ paragraph within second item
- third item
## Links
A link is created in two steps. The first step is to insert the link text and a reference id at the position desired within your content. The second step is to add the remainder of the link information at the bottom of the Markdown entry. Here's an example:
> This is my content and I want to link to the \[HSA Forms\]\[1\] page.
> ... (more content until we reach the bottom of this entry) ...
> \[1\]: http://www.beaumonthsa.org/hsa-forms.aspx "HSA Forms"
In the first step, I typed the link text enclosed by square brackets and then the reference id (a unique number also enclosed by square brackets).
In the second step, I typed the reference id followed by a colon, a space, the link url, another space and the link title (the text that pops up when you hover over the link). Note that the title is enclosed by quotes.
Here it is for real:
> This is my content and I want to reference the [HSA Forms][1] page.
[1]: http://www.beaumonthsa.org/hsa-forms.aspx "HSA Forms"
## Automatic Links
An automatic link is created in a one step process. Simply surround a url or email address with `<` and `>` (angle brackets). Note that this is less friendly than the link I created above. It lacks the link text and title but it has its place within beaumonthsa.org.
> This my content and I want to link to `<`http://www.google.com`>` and `<`joel@xtivus.com`>`.
Here it is for real:
> This my content and I want to link to <http://www.google.com> and <joel@xtivus.com>.
## Images
Like a normal link, an image is created in two steps. The first step is to insert the image alt text and a reference id at the position desired within your content. You can optionally add a "CLEAR" tag (as shown below) to ensure that the text that follows the image will start below the image and not to the right of the image. The last step is to add the remainder of the image information at the bottom of Markdown entry. Here's an example:
> This is my content and I want to display the bear header.
> \!\[BHSA Bear Header\]\[1\]\[CLEAR\]
> ... (more content until we reach the bottom of this entry) ...
> \[1\]: https://www.xtivus.com/public/bearheader.gif?id=1518:11:81&h=60 "Beaumont Elementary School HSA!"
In the first step, I typed the image alt text enclosed by square brackets and then the reference id (a unique number also enclosed by square brackets). Except for the "CLEAR" tag, it's just like the first step in the link process. *Or is it?* **Look at the start of the entry.** There is an exclamation point right before the first square bracket. You need that exclamation point for the image to appear.
In the second step, I typed the reference id followed by a colon, a space, the image url, another space and the image title (the text that pops up when you hover over the image). Note that the title is enclosed by quotes.
Here it is for real:
> This is my content and I want to display the bear header.
> ![BHSA Bear Header][1][CLEAR]
[1]: https://www.xtivus.com/public/bearheader.gif?id=1518:11:81&h=60 "Beaumont Elementary School HSA!"
## Images With Links
To create an image with a link, create an image and then surround it with the usual link syntax.
Or, create a link and then insert the image syntax where the text would usually go.
\[ \!\[Car Magnet\]\[1\] \]\[2\]
\[1\]: https://www.xtivus.com/public/carmagnet.jpg?id=2310:11:81&w=100 ++
\[2\]: http://www.beaumonthsa.org/water-bottles-magnets.aspx "Buy A Car Magnet!"
Here it is for real:
[ ![Car Magnet][1] ][2]
[1]: https://www.xtivus.com/public/carmagnet.jpg?id=2310:11:81&w=100
[2]: http://www.beaumonthsa.org/water-bottles-magnets.aspx "Buy A Car Magnet!"
## Backslash Escapes
You may find yourself needing to use a Markdown special character (e.g., #) as just that character without its Markdown specialness. In most cases you can place a backslash in front of it and everything will be fine. So, it's \\\*NEW\\\* to see real asterisks. Not \*NEW\*.
## Limitations
There is a current limitation in xtivus that prevents you from taking advantage of the complete Markdown syntax. Text created in xtivus is currently "scrubbed" of extra whitespace (spaces, tabs and the like). This was done so that plain text content resembles in xtivus how it will eventually appear in a web page. Unfortunately, Markdown sometimes relies on that extra whitespace.
To create a code block using Markdown, you begin lines with at least four spaces. They get wiped away by xtivus. The workaround is not too bad. Simply start each line with `++++` (four plus signs) instead of the four spaces. Note that this also applies to multi-level/multi-paragraph lists.
To create a new line within the same paragraph using Markdown, you end the line with two spaces and hit Enter to begin a new line. The extra spaces are deleted by xtivus. Again, the workaround is not too bad. Simply end the line with `++` (two plus signs) instead of the two spaces.

# Markdown Sandbox
## Sandbox Usage Guidelines
This sandbox was created to demonstrate common Markdown syntax. It can also be used to test your content changes before taking them ***live***. While the "View" link within the detail tab of xtivus is handy for seeing your Markdown content as rendered in HTML, it cannot show you exactly what your content will look like within beaumonthsa.org. Why? Because the "View" link yields unstyled HTML whereas beaumonthsa.org is highly styled.
You can experiment using the sandbox. Simply add new entries within the Markdown Sandbox list. Click the "View" link in the xtivus detail tab for a quick look or click the Markdown Sandbox link (under Markdown Links) in the xtivus left nav to see the results in beaumonthsa.org.
If you are adding or replacing a large amount of content in beaumonthsa.org consider taking the following steps:
1. create a new Markdown List under Virtual Pages, ***or***
2. copy an existing Markdown List and paste it under Virtual Pages
3. give the Markdown List a *unique* name ending in `.aspx`
4. the name should be all lower case, hyphenated, no spaces
5. to quickly see your changes, click the "View" link within xtivus
6. to see it in beaumonthsa.org, go to http://beaumonthsa.xtivus.com/`list-name`
That's all there is to using the Markdown Sandbox! The remainder of this document shows typical usage of Markdown within beaumonthsa.org.

#### Heading 4
Notice that, within beaumonthsa.org, headings 1-4 will start below images that precede them.
A simple paragraph with a block quote:
> This is a `block quote` (the words, block quote, were marked as "code") ++
> two lines worth!
A second paragraph with three hard breaking lines: ++
one ++
two ++
three
Finally, an image:

##### Heading 5
A simple paragraph followed by an horizontal rule...
***
... and another paragraph.
###### Heading 6
Notice that, within beaumonthsa.org, headings 5-6 will not start below images that precede them.
Instead of typing my_techie_name you need to "escape" the underscores to get the intended: my\_techie\_name.
You can use the backticks to make that name work: `my_techie_name` (but then you get "code" styling).

### About Beaumont
Beaumont is one of five elementary schools in the Tredyffrin/Easttown (T/E) School District. There are approximately 430 students and 20 classroom teachers in our K-4 school.
### Attendance
School hours are 8:50am-3:20pm. AM Kindergarten is 8:50am-11:40am and PM Kindergarten is 12:30pm-3:20pm. No child should arrive at school prior to 8:30am unless participating in a before-school club or is attending A Child's Place. PM Kindergarten children should not be dropped off until after 12:20pm. 1/2 days and early dismissal is 12:20pm.
### Late Arrival
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the Greeter in the lobby before heading to class. PM Kindergarten children arriving after 12:30pm must also report to the Greeter.
### Absences
Please call the school at 610.240.1400 and leave a voicemail (option 5) before 9:30am on the day of your child's absence. State your child's name, homeroom teacher and number, and a brief reason why your child is absent. Send a note to school with the same written information upon your child's return. If absent for more than one day, contact the school office by 9:30am for homework requests.
### Requests for Homework When Absent
Homework may be requested for students who are absent for more than one day. If your child has been out for more than one day, contact the office by 9:30 a.m. to allow time for the assignments to be gathered. Assignments may be picked up in the office at 3:20 p.m. or sent home with another student. (If a child is absent for only one day, please do not request assignments).
### Greeter
Please sign in with our Greeter and get an ID Badge before going to any part of the building. Please go directly to you destination and there only. Please check in with the greeter again if you decide to go anywhere else in the building.
### Visits to School
Parents are encouraged to visit our school, particularly for special activities and events. If you would like to observe in a classroom, please make arrangements with the classroom teacher or the principal. We ask that you always register in the office and get a Visitor's ID Badge for the safety and security of our students. Also, please remember to turn off you cell phones. If you need to bring any items to your child, please leave them in the office in order to minimize classroom interruptions.
### Mid-Day/Early Pick-Up
If children need to be dismissed early or excused from school for medical appointments or other urgent reasons, parents must send a note to the child's teacher. Your child will be dismissed through the office. Inform your child of the pick-up time so classes will not be disturbed.
### Carpool Drop-Off/Pick-Up
Morning drop-offs are done in the carpool circle after 8:30am. PM Kindergarten students should also be dropped off in the carpool circle from 12:20 to 12:35pm. If you will be picking up your child after school at 3:20pm, you must send a note to let your child's teacher know you will be waiting at carpool.

# Beaumont Staff Directory
The Staff Directory for Beaumont is maintained on the TE School District website.
Below is a link to the Contact Us / Staff Directory page. Search results include voicemail number and email address.
PLEASE NOTE: Email may not be the fastest and most convenient way to send messages to teachers and staff. Some teachers read their email messages in the morning before school, some at the end of the day, and some during the school day. Many prefer to use the phone to speak directly to parents.
For these reasons, use email only for non-vital messages. Do not use email to inform the teacher of schedule changes for your child. Confidential information should be conveyed only by phone or personal contact; this includes messages regarding your child's academic progress, learning expectations, and behavioral issues. For all medical and health concerns, contact the school nurse only by phone.

transportation.aspx
# School Transportation
Bus schedules are posted [here][1] (PDF).
All students are expected to ride on the buses to which they have been assigned. Written parental requests for occasional, short-term bus exceptions are to be directed to the principal, who in turn will evaluate the requests and, if approved, issue a day pass. Day passes will be issued for lessons, scouting, or supervision, and are contingent upon available seats.
Parents who desire a long-term exception to bus assignments specifically for the purpose of child care shall complete a Request for Long-Term Alternate Bus Assignment Form. Consideration will be given only to requests for alternate transportation within a student's attendance area on a regular basis for a semester or an academic year, subject to space availability.
Students who normally ride buses may not walk home without written permission from their parents. If parents want to give their children blanket permission to walk home at their own discretion, a letter stating this information must be on file in the school office.
### Transportation Changes
When your child will not be going home by the usual way, please send a note to school stating how your child will be going home. If a pass for another bus is requested, please include the following information in the note:
- your child's first and last name
- the student (first and last name) with whom your child will be going home
- the number of the bus your child will be riding
### Carpool Drop-Off/Pick-Up
Morning drop-offs are done in the carpool circle after 8:30am. PM Kindergarten students should also be dropped off in the carpool circle from 12:20 to 12:35pm. If you will be picking up your child after school at 3:20pm, you must send a note to let your child's teacher know you will be waiting at carpool.
Please take note of the following for Drop-offs [Carpool Reminders][2].

# Virtual Pages
## Introduction
Using xtivus and Markdown, you can now add complete pages to beaumonthsa.org! Just follow a few simple rules and your virtual pages will display on the website just like complete physical pages.
## The Rules
Okay, here are the rules.
#### Naming
- create a Markdown List within "Virtual Pages"
- give the list a *unique* name ending in `.aspx`
- it must be unique within the Beaumonth HSA public xsite
- the name should be all lower case, no spaces
- if it is a multi-word name, use hyphens (dashes)
#### First Item
- the first item must contain a **Heading 1** name
***
> \# Virtual Pages
***
That's all there is to it. Now you can link to the virtual page.
## Linking to Virtual Pages
To link to the virtual page within the beaumonthsa.org website, use this:
/`list-name`
So, if you create a Markdown List named `my-excellent-virtual-page.aspx`, the link is:
/my-excellent-virtual-page.aspx
## Virtual Page Format
Virtual pages have the same look as other Beaumont HSA pages. The headings, menus, left content, footer and styling will be identical. There are many virtual pages.

# Volunteer Guidelines
The school program is greatly enriched by the volunteer services of many parents. Volunteers play an important role in the quality of life in our school. The assistance and support they offer to students and staff is invaluable and their contributions are part of what makes our school so special.
The following guidelines have been developed to assist you in serving this unique function. Offering to volunteer in our school assumes your understanding and agreement of these guidelines.
**Confidentiality** ++
Information you see or hear can affect the lives and futures of individual students. Volunteers must respect the privacy of this information and maintain the same in strict confidence.
**Relations with Students** ++
Volunteers are viewed by students and parents as representatives of the School Board and the School Administration, and are perceived by students as authority figures. When students raise issues of a personal or controversial nature, volunteers are placed in a difficult position. While working in a volunteer capacity in school or at school-related activities, however, volunteers must refrain from debating, discussing or imposing their opinions on students in personal or controversial issues.
**Attendance** ++
School personnel and HSA volunteer chairpersons depend upon and plan for the assistance of volunteers as scheduled. Volunteers are encouraged to be courteous and notify the individuals with whom they work as far in advance as possible if they are unable to help as scheduled.
The following information is regulation 1300 from the T/E School District Policies and Regulations regarding volunteers. The PDF form is available at [R1300.pdf][1] if you wish to download it.

These guidelines apply to all volunteers involved with the District in any capacity including, but not limited to volunteers involved with:
1. District educational programs including field trips;
2. District sponsored cocurricular activities, extracurricular activities or clubs;
3. District administration such as clerical work on behalf of schools; and
4. Activities sponsored or promoted by District schools.
“Regular volunteers” means volunteers who have regular and significant contact with students or with confidential student information and includes volunteer coaches, activity advisors, clerical volunteers, and all regularly scheduled volunteers.
All volunteers will be expected to follow these guidelines:
1. Respect the authority of the teacher or supervisor as the decision maker and as the person responsible for the instructional program, all classroom activities, and the well-being of all children in the classroom or school. Teachers or supervisors bear the ultimate responsibility for the welfare of students during school activities. When working with students or chaperoning field trips or school activities, parent volunteers must report all incidents of inappropriate behavior or situations in which students might be in danger to the teacher or supervisor in charge of the activity.
2. Respect the privacy and anonymity of each child by maintaining the confidentiality of information regarding students. Information regarding student classroom performance and/or behavior and information contained in student records must be shared only with District employees with an “educational need to know” the information. Information from student records is regulated by the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act.
3. Report all incidents of suspected child abuse to the teacher or supervisor in charge.
4. Maintain a professional relationship with students. Volunteers are viewed as representatives of the School Board and Administration. When issues of a personal or confidential nature are raised by students, volunteers are placed in a difficult situation. Nonetheless, volunteers must refrain from imposing their own opinions on students regarding matters of a personal nature.
5. Courteously inform your supervising teacher or supervisor if unable to attend volunteer activity and document attendance as requested by supervising teacher or supervisor.
Regular volunteers are expected to be familiar with District policies and receive training provided by the District for volunteers. In particular, regular volunteers are expected to comply with the following:
1. District policies and administrative regulations regarding child abuse identification and reporting. Regular volunteers who have direct unsupervised contact with students are expected to provide child abuse clearance checks consistent with the District child/student abuse policy.
2. District policies and administrative regulations regarding the prohibition of discrimination within the District.
3. District policies and administrative regulations regarding unlawful harassment.
4. District policies and administrative regulations regarding student accidents.
5. District policies and administrative regulations regarding student hazing.
6. District policies and administrative regulations regarding student discipline.
7. District policies and administrative regulations regarding drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
8. District policies and administrative regulations regarding the accommodation of special needs students in 22 Pennsylvania Code Chapter 14.
Adopted: June 2005 ++

# Volunteering
Beaumont and its kids need you! The HSA relies on its volunteers to run smoothly. If you can help just a little, it will make a BIG difference. You are welcome to get involved in any and all HSA activities at any level throughout the year. It's fun and the rewards are satisfying and great!
There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities within the HSA to fit every interest, ability, and availability. Some committees have year-round duties while others have special events once or twice a year. Some different kinds of volunteer opportunities include:
- Fundraising events including [Bear Gear][1], the [Spring Plant Sale][2], and the [Wrapping Paper Sale][3]
- In-school services including [Homeroom Parents][4], [Walking Club][5], [Chess Club][6], and the [Bear Facts][7] monthly newsletter
- Social events such as the [Opening Week Picnic][8], [Pizza Bingo][9], and the [Parent Social][10]
- Districtwide committees such as [InterSchool Council][11], [Keystone Healthy Zone/Health Council][12], [ARCH][13], and [Diversity][14]

The time commitment you give as a volunteer is up to you. There are many daytime and evening events which require different levels of hands-on help. This website will soon reflect that information for you on the specific committee pages. You may also contact the chairperson(s) of the committee you may be interested in for further information; use the [HSA Directory][15].
There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer at Beaumont!
Parents can get involved in the classroom, library, or school office. You can assist teachers in putting student artwork in hallways, re-shelving library books, and helping with the track and field activities for Field Day in June. These are excellent oportunities to familiarize yourself with the school, staff, and students. For more information, contact your child's teacher, Mrs. Haltiwanger (<haltiwangerd@tesd.net> or 610.240.1405) in the library, or Mrs. Toland (<tolandl@tesd.net> or 610.240.1403) in the school office. You may also contact special area teachers directly.
Parents can get involved in the activities and programs of the HSA. Volunteer sign-up forms are available at the beginning of the year in the Opening Week Packet. Sign-up forms are also available throughout the year in the school office or can be obtained [here][16].
You may also contact any committee chairperson (see [HSA Directory][17]) for more information regarding a specific committee.
Be sure to review the T/E School District [Volunteer Guidelines][18] if you will be volunteering in any capacity at the school or HSA.
